CONTRACTOR TAX WRITE-OFFS
The money is already spent. The question is how much of it counts as a write-off.
Miss a deduction and you overpay the IRS. Claim the wrong one and you pay it back later, with penalties. In a free review, we go through your actual expenses and tell you which is which — before you file.

Deductions we claim without the documentation to back them
Deduct too little and you overpay every year. Deduct too much and you pay it back later.
Most contractors who come to us are doing one of these two things wrong. Some are doing both at the same time.
Deducting too little
You skip write-offs you're entitled to because you can't tell where the line is — so you play it safe and overpay. Multiply that by every year you've been in business.
Claiming what actually qualifies
Every legitimate expense on the return, each one documented the way the IRS expects. You keep what you're entitled to, and nothing comes back on you later.
Deducting too much
You write off the boots, the jeans, and every lunch out. It works right up until a letter arrives — then it comes back with penalties and interest attached.
Finding that line is the actual work, and it's what we do. We do it before the return is filed — while there's still time to fix it.
Is this you?
Most contractors recognize themselves somewhere on this list.
If one of these sounds like your situation, the article goes deep on it. If several of them do, that's what the free review is for.
What a consult delivers
Four things you leave the free review with
Not a lecture on tax law — concrete answers about your own books, useful whether or not you ever work with us again.
01
A line-by-line sort of your real expenses
Truck, tools, meals, phone, the corner of the house you work from — each one marked deductible, not deductible, or deductible only if you document it a certain way.
02
A clear call on your big purchases
The equipment or work truck you bought — or are about to buy: whether it comes off all at once or gets spread over several years, and which choice does more for this year's bill.
03
A record-keeping routine you'll actually keep
Mileage, receipts, and travel costs on out-of-town jobs — a simple weekly habit so next year's deductions are already proven by the time we file.
04
An honest answer on whether you need us
If your situation is simple and you're already claiming everything correctly, we'll say so and tell you what to keep doing. The review is free either way.
How it works
Three steps from a box of receipts to a clean return
1
We talk
A short conversation about how you actually work — the truck, the jobs, the subs, where you eat, where the paperwork lives. You don't need to prepare anything.
2
We map your write-offs
We go through your expenses line by line, make the expense-versus-depreciate calls, and flag anything that needs better documentation before it's safe to claim.
3
You run the jobs; we keep the file
You keep spending as you see fit — we never tell you to buy something just for a deduction. We keep the books current and prepare and file the return, with every write-off documented.
A personal note
"We would rather leave a questionable deduction off your return than put one on that falls apart the first time someone asks about it."
Not every contractor needs ongoing help. If your books are simple and your deductions are straightforward, we'll tell you that in the review and point you at what to keep doing. If there's real money being missed or real exposure building, we'll show you that instead. The review is free either way.

How the fee works
A flat fee, quoted up front.
The review itself costs nothing. If you hire us after it, the quote depends on the shape of your business — not a package:
What moves your quote
four things
01
How you're set up — sole proprietor, single-member LLC, or an S-corp with payroll.
02
The state of the books — clean records cost less to maintain than a year of receipts to reconstruct.
03
Whether you have subs or employees — payroll and 1099 filings add moving parts.
04
How much catching up is involved — one current year is a different job from several unfiled ones.

Questions we get before we start
What does the write-off review cost?
Nothing. The first review is free. We go through your expenses, tell you what counts and what doesn't, and give you a straight quote if ongoing help makes sense. You're under no obligation to take it.
Do I need to come to an office?
No. Most of our contractor clients do everything by phone, video, and secure document upload — you'll never need to drop off a shoebox in person. Every call and email is answered the same business day.
What should I have ready for the first conversation?
Nothing formal. Last year's return helps if you can find it, plus a rough sense of your big expenses — truck, tools, materials, subs. We take it from there. Sorting the mess is part of the job.
Do you just tell me what to deduct, or do you actually file?
We prepare and file. Our team handles the bookkeeping, the returns, and the planning — you're not left alone with a list of suggestions. And if the IRS ever questions what we filed, our team of IRS representation specialists is admitted to practice before the IRS and can respond for you.
Is it too late to fix last year's write-offs?
Usually not. Missed deductions can often be picked up by amending a prior return, and sloppy categories can be corrected going forward. The sooner we look, the more options are on the table — raise it in the free review.
Will you push me to form an LLC or buy equipment for the deduction?
No. We don't sell entities, and we never tell you to spend money just to save on taxes — a deduction never pays for the whole purchase. We'll lay out the tax side of the LLC question plainly. On the legal side, we're not attorneys, and we'll tell you when you need one.
Bring us a year of expenses. Leave knowing what actually counts.
The review is free, and every call and email is answered the same business day. Before you file another return built on guesses, let our team go through the real numbers with you.
