Self-Employed & 1099 Tax Services

Self-employed tax planning and filing for 1099 and gig workers.

Self-employed tax planning for first-year freelancers, gig drivers, and independent workers: we set the number to hold back from every payment, put the four payment dates on your calendar, build the records that hold up, and file the return when the year closes.

Why it matters

The two ways a first 1099 year goes wrong

Nobody withholds from a 1099 payment. What you do with that fact in your first year decides whether next filing season is routine or expensive.

Set aside nothing
Every deposit feels like income, so it all gets spent. No payments made, no log kept, and the first return arrives with a self-employment tax nobody withheld and nothing saved to cover it.
Set aside the right amount
A set number moves out of every payment the day it lands. The four payment dates sit on the calendar, and a mileage and expense log runs in the background all year.
Set aside too much — or pay for the wrong things
Over-withholding starves your own cash flow. Others buy an S-corp election or software they don’t need, and hoard receipts for things that were never deductible.

Working out which of these you’re doing is the job. We do it with you before the first payment is due, not after the last one is missed.

What the engagement covers

Your set-aside number
We model your actual income and platform mix and give you one number to move out of every payment — not a generic percentage from an article.
Your quarterly schedule
We map the four payment dates to your cash flow, calculate each payment, and show you exactly how to make them yourself.
A record system you’ll actually keep
Mileage, phone, fees, supplies — we set up a log that takes minutes a week and holds up if anyone asks to see it.
A write-off review
We go through how you work and tell you what qualifies, what doesn’t, and which receipts you can stop keeping.
The return itself
When the year closes, we prepare and file the Schedule C and Schedule SE, with the deductible half of your self-employment tax handled correctly.
An honest answer on structure
LLC, S-corp, or neither — we tell you whether a formal structure would actually save you money at your income, and when it wouldn’t.
What you leave with

Concrete outputs, not advice you have to interpret

Every engagement ends with the same four things in your hands.

01
A set-aside number per payment
One figure, built from your income and platforms, that you move the day each payment lands.
02
A payment calendar
The four dates with the amount for each, plus plain instructions for paying the IRS directly yourself.
03
A working record system
A mileage and expense log set up around how you actually work, so the documentation exists before anyone asks for it.
04
A straight answer
A clear read on your situation — and sometimes there’s nothing worth paying for. If that’s the case, we’ll say so.
How it works

How it works

1

You send us your picture

Your 1099s or platform summaries, a few months of income history, and a note on how you work. No bookkeeping cleanup required first.

2

We model it

This is the hard step, and it’s ours. We run your self-employment tax and income tax together, set your set-aside number, and build your payment schedule.

3

You pay the IRS yourself

We show you exactly how, but every payment comes from your account to the IRS. We never touch your money or your accounts.

“Most first-year 1099 workers don’t have a tax problem — they have a system problem, and a system is the easy part.”

We built this service for the year nobody warned you about: the first one where no employer withholds anything. One review tells us whether you need a plan, a return, or just a percentage — and we’ll tell you which. — N&T Tax & Advisory Group, Santa Clarita, California

How the fee works

A flat fee, quoted up front.

A flat fee, quoted up front. The quote depends on four things:

01Income sources. One platform is simpler than three; each additional 1099 or app adds to the modeling work.
02Planning only, or planning plus filing. Some clients want the set-aside number and schedule; others want us to prepare the return too.
03State filing. A state return alongside the federal one changes the scope, and we work with clients in any state.
04How far behind the records are. A clean year of platform summaries quotes lower than a shoebox of screenshots and bank statements.
✓After the free review, we quote you a flat number — before any work starts. No surprises.

Questions before you hire us

What does this cost?
A flat fee, quoted up front before any work starts. The quote depends on your number of income sources, whether we file the return or only build the plan, state filing, and how far behind your records are. The first review costs $0.
Do I need to live near you?
No. The entire engagement runs remotely — documents, questions, and the return itself. We work with 1099 and gig workers in any state.
What do I need to send you?
Your 1099s or platform earning summaries, a few months of income history, and a short note on how you work. If your records are messy, send them anyway — sorting them is part of the job.
Do you file my return, or just advise?
Both are available. Most clients have us build the plan and file the return, but if you only want the set-aside number, payment schedule, and record system, we scope it that way.
When in the year should I start?
Earlier is easier, because the set-aside number works from the first payment. But we take clients at any point — including after a missed payment — and the plan adjusts to where you are.
Do you make the quarterly payments for me?
No — and we’d suggest being wary of anyone who asks to. We calculate each payment and show you exactly how to make it, but every dollar moves from your account directly to the IRS.
